Richard is a Montana-based fine art photographer. Richard’s artistic journey was shaped by formal Fine Art study at university and, perhaps more significantly, as an apprentice to renowned artist Joseph Moss in the late 1980s. (Joseph was part of the New York art world in the 1970s and 80s and a maintained friendly competition with Andy Warhol.) Working in Moss’s studio on his monumental ‘Orifice’ series of sculptures taught Richard that enduring art is built on discipline and patience.

Those early lessons became the foundation of Richard’s photography. Unlike staged wildlife imagery, where animals are deliberately herded, Richard’s bison photography is rooted in allowing time to unfold excruciatingly slowly - permitting him to capture improbable moments. The result is images in which a single bison appears to be, perhaps, the only bison in all of Yellowstone.

Rarity is not the subject, but the moment - and seizing it.

Richard’s work explores the intersection of time, wilderness, and beauty - offering truly unique images that represent endurance and quiet power.
