Richard McFarland

Richard is an American fine art photographer whose work reflects a lifelong pursuit of beauty, resilience, and quiet revelation in the natural world. Based near Bozeman, Montana, Richard’s journey as an artist has been shaped not only by formal study in fine art photography at university, but by a profound personal battle with acute myeloid leukemia — a five-year battle that included enduring a full bone marrow transplant (2021) and beating long odds, with just a 25% chance of survival. This experience deepened his appreciation for the fragility of life and the solace found in open spaces and wildlife.

Richard’s photography blends precision with patience and a contemplative eye, inviting viewers into moments of stillness, reflection, and quiet resolve. His work has been exhibited in galleries across the United States and featured in publications that celebrate both artistic craft and narrative depth. Across each series, Richard explores the interplay between endurance and beauty, creating imagery that invites personal reflection and sustained engagement.
